Workers United Retirees from our Chicago chapter joined with the Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans to hold a news conference in support of Social Security. Workers United Retiree Council member Katie Jordan cheers from a crowd of supporters when she said "Social Security is a promise that must not be broken."

Scores of Atlanta workers and their families were joined by college students and Sodexo workers from around the country on Thursday, August 12, 2010, for a march and town hall meeting to press the French-owned global company -- which in Atlanta has 95% of the contracted food service market in higher ed based on enrollment  -- to provide good jobs to help build a better community.

The Chicago Sun reports that President Obama praised the successful campaign to save jobs at Hartmarx during a fundraiser for Democrat Alexi Giannoulias, who is running for the U.S. Senate in Illinois.  The campaign to save Hartmarx was spearheaded by Workers United.  It included protests of the big banks and effective efforts to pressure Wells Fargo.
